The Strength of an Idea

There are currently three methods of fighting against PLANT diseases:

  • CONVENTIONAL CROP PROTECTION,
  • INTEGRATED CROP PROTECTION (formerly GUIDED CROP PROTECTION)
  • BIOLOGICAL or ORGANIC CROP PROTECTION.

In 1958, at the age of 33, Claudio Martignani of Lugo di Romagna, Italy (that’s him in the photo alongside) sensed the great potential for the future of an innovative technology which, in an era characterised by indiscriminate and massive use of CHEMICAL PRODUCTS of all kinds and toxicological categories, etc., allowed fully effective treatments with a 90° reduction in WATER, a 70% in LABOUR TIME and elimination of dripping on the ground, compared with conventional SPRAYNG MACHINES of all kinds.

In answer to the question of when and how PROCEDURES other than the conventional or strictly chemical ones were developed, it can safely be said that the first spark which gave rise to this extremely important DEVELOPMENT, with its accompanying social, economic and ecological implications, as well as those for health, came with the introduction in 1946 of the revolutionary system for application of crop protection products, “KIEKENS WHIRLWIND HOLLAND” (K.W.H) LOW-VOLUME PNEUMATIC SPRAYERS, by several Dutch experts and researchers.

Some 50 years have passed since then…! How many memories…

Almost entire lifetime…

However, the strength of ideas is timeless, particularly when supported by the firm convection of being the authors of a project aimed at “creating” something of undoubted value.

It seems like yesterday…
